| Indie Rock Mystery #685. So. I'll get to the cartoon in a minute. Anyways. One way that I can pretty much instantaneously judge how good the music on a cd will be, is I check the track list and I look for digits and single letters in the place of real words. If I see any use of 4, U, or 2 in the place of for, you, and to (or too), for example, I will quickly replace the offending cd on the rack, and put on my best hipster i-only-picked-that-cd-up-for Yeah so, those "abbreviations" as it were, usually tell me all I need to know. What I AM curious about however, is why indie rockers fell that it's ok to use "yr" instead of "your". I think the first time I came across it was Godspeed You! Black Emperor's cd called "Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven" (that's a whole bunch of words that look ridiculous put together), but since then, I know I've seen it in quite a few other places. Ok, well I just glanced through my iTunes, and maybe we have Sonic Youth to blame for it actually, but I also saw a LeTigre song called "Gone B4 Yr Home", so I really don't know what to think. At any rate.... what the hell indie rock? What's going on. The comic: I think swarmee might have come up with the seed for this idea? I know someone else mentioned it to me. If it wasn't swarmee, sorry whoever it was and I forgot. Yeah. I don't think it needs a ton of explanation, but it's a pretty darkly funny image. And if you don't think it's darkly funny, then you're dumb. THANKS FOR READING. My best 2 U & yrs 4-EVAH ![]() |
